Research clearly shows that children who attend preschool are more likely to succeed in kindergarten, and that participating in early childhood education provides academic and social benefits that last well beyond the early years. When a child enters SSCM School they become part of an established setting for learning. Our preschool classrooms are an integral part of the elementary school community and considered an important part of the learning continuum. The program follows the curriculum set forth by the Diocese of Corpus Christi Office of Catholic School:

Religion – The religion curriculum is centered on developing the students relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, as well as an introduction to Mother Mary, the Saints, Gospel values.

Language Arts – Focuses on integrating all aspects of Language Arts: listening, speaking, phonic skills, reading, and writing, which includes grammar and mechanic skills.

Math - The primary focal areas are understanding and identifying numbers, as well as counting, cardinality, comparing objects by measurable attributes and knowing how to apply principals.

Science – In this program, the students will identify living organisms both plants and animals.  They will begin to identify special characteristics in animals and their habitats.  The program will provide opportunities to conduct simple investigations outdoors and in the classroom.  The students will come familiar with scientific terminology and use it to communicate the results of investigations.

Social Studies – The students will identify historical figures, patriotic holidays, symbols of our state and country and the location of specific places on the map.  They will become familiar with the culture and traditions celebrated each year by the family, the community and society.  The students will become familiar with the characteristics that make a good leader and a good citizen in society.

Art – The student will develop basic skills needed to color, cut, paste and paint.  The students will use a variety of media and tools to promote creative self-expression.

Technology – The students will be provided with opportunities to learn new skills at each grade level to improve their knowledge of technology.

Physical Education - The Students will develop fundamental movement skills, develop body awareness, and practice Gospel Values and Virtues when playing with others.
